Free Stuff on the Web You Don’t Want

Malware, spyware and viruses come cloaked in many innocent looking forms on the web. You see them everywhere, even on legitimate sites like Yahoo! and Google. They’re perky, freindly, and a free download. Why not?

The spyware they install can slow down your PC to a crawl. They gather and sell information about you constantly, and the frequent calls to report what sites you have visited to “home base” will certainly bog down your computer.

Here’s a list of crapware installers. How these guys get away with this, I don’t know.

They include an uninstaller with their products, but it leaves all kind of trojans behind. McAfee Site Advisor rates their sites as yellow, not red. However, when you begin to read the hundreds of viewer comments about these snoops, it becomes apparent you might not want their programs on your computer.

I’m sure that somewhere in the long user agreement that is something about the fact that computer performance might be slowed. Nowhere, however, do they mention the enormous amount of bad programs their uninstaller leaves behind.

I pay for my computer’s faster preformance with actual cash, by buying better hardware. When these bozos slow down my computer, it’s like taking that cash right out of my pocket and that makes me mad.
