This mini-game add-on to Resident Evil 5 brings a new Mercenaries Reunion mode and also a new adventure starring Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine and explains how Chris lost Jill before the actual game of Resident Evil 5 begins. The game lacks a lot of the real Resident Evil feel - there is nothing that jumps out at you to frighten you - but the backgrounds and music are supposed to trace back to the original Resident Evil. Many of the enemies are exactly the same as the main story, but with minor alterations to not be the Executioner we’re all so familiar with.

There are stars throughout the level that you are to shoot and destroy in order to get a trophy which is fun to look for once you know the level, but a royal pain when you’re not sure if the noise you’re hearing is an enemy or just some ambient noise. The scenario is fun, and very short. On professional mode it can be beat in just under an hour, and on amateur it can be beat in twenty some minutes. It’s a nice game if you’re heading to work or school and only have 30 minutes of spare time before the next activity has to start. The challenge is the final “boss”, but you already know what to expect if you’ve played 5. It’s a pain in the ass, and all you have to do is run out of ammo to make the battle end as quickly and painlessly as possible. It’s better to play as Chris then as Jill because Chris constantly is getting in your way if you’re playing as Jill. I preferred playing as Jill, but a lot of really good shots were blocked by Chris‘ obscenely muscled body blocking my view. This add on package includes some new outfits for Chris and Sheva and some characters from the older Resident Evil games that you may like. It’s challenging but fun and it doesn’t last too horribly long. I recommend it to Resident Evil fans for sure! 9 out of 10 stars |
